The Wednesday Sacrifice

In the theological mindset of the Church, certain days of the week have symbolic significance.

Sunday, of course, is the Lord’s Day because of His Resurrection. Saturdays have always been especially devoted the Blessed Virgin Mary due to her mourning the death of her Son on Holy Saturday. Thursdays have a special connection to the holy priesthood because of the institution of the priesthood on Holy Thursday.

And Wednesdays are devoted to St. Joseph. Why?

Carmelite priest, Fr. Nicholas Blackwell, made an interesting observation about the Church’s devotion to Joseph on Wednesdays. He said, “Wednesday is like a bridge from one part of the week to another. It’s true that St. Joseph is like a bridge for us, too — a bridge between the Old and New Testaments.”

Joseph is also a bridge to the Holy Family for us.

Go To Joseph wants to reinvigorate the Wednesday devotion to Joseph by asking our viewers to make sacrifices on Wednesdays in union with the sacrificial life of St. Joseph.

Join us in the Wednesday Sacrifice!

Here’s how it works.

Dedicate every Wednesday to offering some sort of sacrifice to and with Saint Joseph for the sake of all the intentions we bring to him – the needs of society, the Church, our families and souls.

In addition to the traditional practices of the Church (Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving) the sacrifice you choose to make is entirely up to you:

Vocational

  • Extra fidelity to spouse, family, and one’s natural responsibilities
  • Going the extra mile to nurture, teach, spend time with, and/or encourage the children under your care
  • Extra effort to set an example for others or exercise virtue in the performance of our duties.

Charitable

  • A conscious choice, an extra effort, to reach out to someone who is suffering
  • Donations to charity from your substance, not just your want.
  • Giving of time and talent to others in a sacrificial way.

Spontaneous

  • Responding to the inconvenient requests of others with kindness
  • Patiently enduring the lack of professionalism or failings of others without acting rashly
  • Offering a kind word when you would rather lash out.

The important thing is that we consciously choose and offer these sacrifices to Joseph on Wednesdays as our way to go to Joseph for the needs of our World, our Church, and our Families.

Joseph will honor and bless every sacrifice we offer to him!

Consecration Prayer to the Three Sacred Hearts

Immaculate Heart of Mary,
and Chaste Heart of Saint Joseph,
I consecrate to you this day
My mind +, my words+,
My body+, my heart+, and my soul+,
So that your will be done
Through me this day.
Amen.
